Floating Mirror

The Floating Mirror series includes 10 collages made from archival inkjet prints and gouache on paper. The photographs in this series depict a cutout shape, reminiscent of a hand held mirror, floating in the sky. The “mirrors” have been tossed into the sky and photographed as they flip, turn and fall back to the ground. The center of the mirror is cut out allowing the background sky to be seen instead of what would otherwise be a reflection in glass. This gesture upholds the literal over the imagined or the perceived. The vertical diptych sets ups a relationship between two images that is both comparative and synergistic; the different positions and angles of the floating and falling “mirrors” present different points of view in relationship to one another and in some cases, a point of view that stands alone.
